  • Michael Willmot COP21 Paris climate change talks start Nov 30th (large march in London on Sunday 29 th ) so there may be opportunity in the coming days to discuss relative carbon footprint of train travel compared with other modes, and if so   http://www.ecopassenger.org/ is a useful site.   Of course for rail it depends on motive power, loading levels etc, but in general more favourable than road and 10x better than flying.   Even HS2 (whatever your views about it) looks favourable compared to other modes – details on site sponsored jointly by Campaign for Better Transport / CPRE / RSPB / Greengauge21 at http://www.greengauge21.net/wp-content/uploads/Carbon-and-HS2-GG21-flyer.pdf .
