    Good afternoon,
Following a sucessful 'free' session organised by a new group in our village Mytholmroyd Arts Festival' it arranged sessions for the'Over 60's'and some schools. and the community to experience the art of ceramics! The theme was to be 'things you find in a house'. Our 'Over 60's' topic was flowers, bowls, cups and spoons.
In charge of us was a talented and professional ceramacist Sarah McDade; it was fun and productive. The clay items were fired and displayed in the village in the autumn; once the event was over I found myself in charge of all these lovely spoons and flowers.
The idea to display them for all to see on the station was born.
I have been donated an old bicycle wheel; I've approached the BTP for more of their bells and 61016 cards to eke out the display and provide some sound as well. I'm just waiting now for my friend George (our Deputy Chair and all-round good egg) to help put it all together.
So - its not 'Guns 'n' Roses' but 'Spoons 'n' flowers with bells on..'

Greetings All - it's been a while since I added my pen'orth to this Café and its culture!
Still harping a bit in the past - 2016 was for Mytholmroyd an amazing year that we hope will continue in 2017.
It has started with a flash, bang wallop already! It appears that our long campaign to bring our derelict Grade 2 Listed Station Building back into use for our community is definitely on the needles.
We have had  word from Network Rail that the building will be renovated, made safe and ready for a refurbishment by The Station Building, Mytholmroyd  (we have started the process of forming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation). This new enterprise will be a separate entity from the Mytholmroyd Station Partnership.
We have received much advise, support and help from Northern, Network Rail, ACoRP, our local Parish and Regional Councils together with the Railway Heritage Trust, and hopefully Architectural Heritage that is currently studying our application for their support towards funding...    less

September 2016 is turning into an amazing year for Mytholmroyd, upwards, ever upwards!
The Twinning Event with Bentham has been memorable not just for us but for all the folk who travelled with us to and from that delightful outpost of Yorkshire - Bentham! The welcome was as warm as the delicious lunch that awaited us -  the raised collective temperature of all of us was due to the humour, wit and gentle barracking that Gerald Townson's unveiling of the 11th photograph in the admirable 'An Hour in the life of Bentham' display on the station area.
Both groups are pleased with the outcome of these events - and are determined to continue to spread the word that Station Adoption encourages local community involvement have fun, make friends and enjoy the experience. Through the Partnership's community involvement we have developed a rapport with our youngsters around the village, and encourage and enhance their knowledge of safety issues within a railway environment as well as providing them...    less

    Good morning All,
Yesterday we had a visit from a group of 15 people from the Midlands led by Thomas Raynor, Stakeholder Co-Ordinator for Arriva; they were all interested in seeing how station adopters worked along the Calder Valley.( Manchester to Sowerby Bridge is 30 miles up the line -with Littleborough being within the Manchester management team.)
Our group of six met the party at Manchester Victoria, its newly refurbished Station was much admired.
1st stop was Mytholmroyd, John O'Grady, Stakeholder Manager for Northern met us, and welcomed the visitors. They were all very interested in the still obvious effects of the Boxing Day floods and subsequent recovery - discussions re embankments, parking and the Station Building's state, and how to   involve the wider community followed during an excellent lunch at the Shoulder of Mutton.
Next; Sowerby Bridge ten minutes up the line;  the excellent progress of the platforms improvement was obvious to be seen with lovely displays of flowers,...    less

On the 2nd of September Gerald Townson, Chair of the FOB will bring twelve members, to include the town Mayor Garry, to a sumptuous lunch here in Mytholmroyd - hopefully to be held in the Good Shepherd Centre, but it is still in the throes of repair and flood resilient works! Sleepless nights - maybe a few! But I am assured 'all will be well'
Gerald and his friends will be greeted by our Mayoral party headed by the esteemed Geoff Mitchell Chair of MSP - and we will make the return trip to Bentham on the 9th of September; we are all looking forward to the exchange. We trust this event, surely a 'first' for Yorkshire to Yorkshire, and Northern, will lead to our aims of promoting the...    less

It's just that everything is going bananas here - it's just one darn thing after another. Not that I'm moaning, well not much, it is all very exciting, especially with the Station Building project at last coming alive.
Following meetings galore with Railway Heritage/AHF,Historic England, the local environmental officers and councillors and with our revered potential Trustees  the situation has become all rather complicated.
    What we do know is that we need a plan. We have prioritised;
    1. Charitable Incorporated Organisation - this we need to get in place; Geoff is working hard on this.
2; seek funding for a professional Feasibility Study - Sheena Campbell, our whizz ex Conservation Officer with the local council, is working on the application form from the Architectural Heritage Fund in the first instance. Then - its finding match-funding to back this up.
In between - there's other things going on - the latest being our...    less

The materials were really easy to use, portable and permanent; POSCA water-based paint markers were tremendous, they can be used on most support materials. What is also useful, is they can erase any mistakes should you need to - as long as you let the 'mistake' dry first. Some of the young cubs were very impatient, but with my soothing, 'she must be obeyed' voice they waited the extra seconds.

Almost lost count of the meetings we've attended. The latest, and very exciting one was held with two  Calderdale Council Officers, representing the Environment and Conservation; Historic England had approached them with regard to the Mytholmroyd Station Building - it ticks all the boxes of this charitable organisation that allows them to support our bid to return the building into a central and usable Community Hub; our building is Grade 11 Listed, within a conservation area; it is a building 'at risk' and in a flood zone.
We supplied the two Officers with knowledge of all plans and involvement of all  interested agencies together with our own vision of its future within the centre of Mytholmroyd. We all came away, walking on air, as we do - and now back to the waiting game.
But there is much interest, local, regional and national in the future of this iconic building that could become a great asset to all in the community of...    less

  • sally buttifant Hi Colleagues, I am interested to know whether there is a similar level of pay for community rail partnership officers? I am compiling the info from posts as they come up but would find out more if people are prepared to email me details of their pay. I'm thinking possibly that I should go through job evaluation to get a grade raise so need evidence. Thanks Sally

  • Martin Yallop From the Spacehive website: https://www.spacehive.com/ The Ultimate Guide to Crowdfunding Spacehive is a funding platform for projects that make local places better. By providing the tools you need to develop your ideas, get noticed by crowds of people, companies, councils and the media, we help you attract funding to make great projects happen. And now we have  a complete guide  to help you formulate your project idea, plan and promote your campaign, pitch for funds and bring your project to life. Chapters include: Defining your idea Presenting your project Planning your campaign Approaching businesses Pledging and payments Communicating your campaign Writing a press release Hosting a pledge party Pitching and Verification Delivering your project Top tips for a successful campaign Why crowdfunding? Crowdfunding – lots of people giving small amounts of money – isn’t a new concept. In fact, back in the 1700s the base of the Statue of Liberty was crowdfunded through public conscription. They received monumental (heh) support and everyone who pledged a dollar or more was rewarded with a mini Statue of Liberty in thanks. Fast forward to present day and using crowdfunding to generate public support for an idea has become more mainstream. The benefits of running a campaign are clear; it allows you to raise awareness and support, get validation for your idea, unlock grants and other funds as well as create a band of advocates for your project. Although running a crowdfunding campaign involves time, energy and a lot of hard work, with plenty of planning and preparation it can help you achieve amazing things.

Already have our Cubs creations and they are fab. Only have to get them assemnled ready for display on the station embankment. What a joy!

Good morning, All, Advice, please regarding a project; because of the displacement of our two primary schools and many of our local community following the Boxing day floods our original ideas have to be put on hold - but would like to still get their involvement. My plan is to have a display of 'birthday cards' in and around the railway embankments we call gardens, for the local community  including the youngsters, to design and for the display in the easiest way possible for all involved. Bearing in mind we are a voluntary organisation our funds are limited, as is our own time; so needs to be A5 size;light in weight, easily cut to size and material, suitable for outside in all weathers (rain); able to take permanent markers. I've researched and found  Gatorplast - but comes in big sheets and looks fairly expensive - any other ideas from you creative people, please. Sue
